Hidenobu "Kalta" Otsuki
(Kalta was born in Tokyo in 1970. He grew up in Yokohama and began playing drums at a young age. He has also worked as a producer and arranger, winning a gold medal at the 44th Japan Record Awards of 2002 for his arrangement of Hitomi Shimatani's "Flaxen-haired Maiden." In 2005, he was with the short-lived TKY band led by trumpeter Toku, which briefly reformed in 2020. Kalta has worked with Ryota Nozaki's Jazztronik, Ken Ota's Swingroove and with Hammond organ player Daisuke Kawai since 2012. In 2008, his band, Vertical-Engine released their debut album to much acclaim. He was with the Nintendo Big Band in 2018 and has released a drumming instructional DVD. Kalta, who has been involved in more than 100 recordings, is extremely active on today's Japanese jazz scene)
